ABOUT ASAWA SOTA . . .
The Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts is a public arts high school, offering instruction in Architecture+Design, Band, Classical Voice, Creative Writing, Dance, Guitar, Jazz & Contemporary Vocal, Media & Film Arts, Musical Theatre, Orchestra, Piano, Technical Theater, Theatre, Visual Arts, World Dance & World Music, in addition to providing a rigorous academic curriculum. Students receive academic instruction in the morning and spend the balance of the day immersed in learning the essential skills and craft of their chosen areas of creative study.
Over 75 Artists-in-Residence– working artists from the broader arts community– are recruited annually by the Arts Directors to support specific goals of each department's curriculum. The result? An inspired and unique teaching structure that exposes students to fresh ideas and experiences, creating a learning environment where vision, creativity and passion are valued in the formation of the whole person. The extraordinary programs we choose to offer at Asawa SOTA require funding which exceeds what is already provided by the SFUSD. All funds raised through SOTA SHOP become part of the Annual Fund, which is managed by the Friends of SOTA Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit, supporting daily operations at Asawa SOTA.
